About me:
Moved into Rushton just over 27 years ago. Only discovered the house through an estate agent who was trying to restore our faith in them. (I might have been making comment about how estate agents only ever send you things which are in the right price bracket – but don’t necessarily fulfil your criteria). The Congleton estate agent spotted our house with a completely different estate agent in Macclesfield and suggested we check it out and as they say the “rest is history!”
We love the village and the fact that “new comers” are made to feel welcome and that there is a real community feel.
I’ve been involved in a few of the other village initiatives over our time here – all of which have shown how the community come together to deal with things in the best interests of the area:
- The country fayre which used to take place on every bank holiday Monday in August at Heaton House Farm and raised huge sums of money for charity over the years
- Fighting the planning permission for the now abandoned housing development on Sugar Street (we successfully got SMDC to refuse permission but it was granted on appeal)
- Saving the Royal Oak from closure by joining forces with a group of friends, setting up a committee and buying it from the brewery through organising a successful community share offer and mortgage.
- The jubilee and coronation village events
- The village facebook page
- The COVID local volunteer effort
- Reduction in village speed limit
- Oh, and I’m a parish councillor but I suppose that’s obvious.
I feel strongly that we have a beautiful village with a really friendly community and I’ll try to help wherever possible to help that continue and grow. If there is anything you’d like the Parish Council to consider please let me (or one of the other councillors) know.
